Hitting the pavement | June 14, 2017

I’ve been working on taking weekly trips into the city to walk around and do some street photography. These were taken with my Fuji X-70, a wide angle fixed lens camera that I can easily stash in my backpack. For people with larger pockets, I’ve read it can be stuffed into your pocket. The lower profile is ideal for street photography, as it tends to not draw too much attention to myself. It’s also extremely quiet, and has little noise at high ISOs, so the need for flash isn’t necessary 90% of the time. I can shoot in manual, aperture priority, shutter priority, and can control white balance, noise, and more things that I have yet to explore!

Though the images below were shot with some intention, I do hope to take more street photography that would be more spontaneous and interactive. I will need to work on how to engage if I want to make images that are more intimate. With almost everyone carrying around some sort of camera, I wonder if people are a little more aware of a lens’ gaze, and feel the need to duck, dodge, or photo bomb! Oh well, if they do. But I want to further my reach, both as a photographer, and as a community member. Wish me luck!

    1. Hi! Thank you 🙂 Yes. I was able to learn how to use it fairly quickly and took it out immediately. Here is a set of photos I took when I was just trying it out the Fuji X-70:

So far, I’m pretty happy with it. Things to note/consider for this specific camera:
      – It’s really light weight. I bought a case that gives it more contour and better grip.
      – It’s a fixed lens at 18.5 mm, which is pretty wide. It doesn’t suit landscape photography (things toward the middle of frame get really small/disappear).
      – There is no view finder. Like a phone, you just look at at the back, frame, and shoot. It makes it kind of hard when you’re out in the sun. I believe there is one you can buy that you can mount on the flash mount if you prefer that. I’m considering getting one, myself.

I’ve only owned this for about a year and a half, and am still learning it’s many functions, abilities, and what its advantages and disadvantages are. I bought it as a companion camera to my DSLR for when I’m traveling. Something to take to dinner so I’m not lugging around a DSLR. And it fits in a good sized purse. This is probably more information than you need, but thought I’d share anyway 🙂

      1. That was SO not too much information– I really appreciate this helpful review. Fitting in a normal purse (my DSLR is so clunky) yet still taking sharp, good photos is my priority. Thank you!!
